Robert Gardos’ first major success was winning the European Junior Championships in 1993 for Hungary. In 1996, he acquired Austrian citizenship. After several years with Turnerschaft Innsbruck and TTC Kuchl, he went on a “wandering journey,” playing for top international clubs in Spain, Russia, and Germany. From 2011, he played for Chartres ASTT in France, becoming a four-time French champion and reaching the Champions League final in 2013. In 2018, he reached the ETTU Cup final with Chartres. He then moved to Rouen, where he became French champion with the northern French team in 2020 and vice-champion in 2023. Together with Chen Weixing and Werner Schlager, he finished second at the 2005 European Championships, and in singles, he won bronze in 2008. In the same year, he finished fourth in the team event at the Beijing Olympics.
At the 2012 and 2018 European Championships, he won the doubles title with Daniel Habesohn, and in 2013, 2015, and 2022, they won silver. In 2015, he also became European champion with the Austrian team after a surprising 3-2 victory over Germany in the final. In 2022, he won bronze in mixed doubles with Sofia Polcanova. At the European Championships in Linz, the main focus will again be on doubles and mixed doubles.
