WR. NEUDORF TABLE TENNIS FESTIVAL

Around six months before the Liebherr European Table Tennis Championships 2024, the ÖTTV and Österreichische Sporthilfe invited guests to Wr Neudorf. Where numerous Olympic and World Championship medal winners from a variety of sports were able to demonstrate their skills at the table.

„Table tennis connects, and that was impressively seen and felt again today! It was a great get-together, both athletically and of course socially,“ said ÖTTV Sports Director Stefan Fegerl, who sees the upcoming Liebherr European Home Championships in October as a great opportunity for table tennis and Austria as a sporting nation in general. To promote this major event, the ÖTTV and Sporthilfe had invited numerous current and former sports stars to the tables on April 23rd. In the company of Sofia Polcanova, who was not sparing with her tips but limited herself to the role of spectator, beach volleyball player Tim Berger made the strongest impression. The U-21 European champion made it all the way to the final, where he found his master in Fabian Elbaky. Paula Hocke won the women’s competition.

“In addition to para table tennis players Christopher Krämer and Krisztian Gardos, four other table tennis aces – Sofia Polcanova, Daniel Habesohn, Robert Gardos and Maciej Kolodziejczyk – are currently being supported by Sporthilfe,” says Sporthilfe Managing Director Gernot Uhlir, adding: “We are looking forward to cheering them on in front of their home crowd in October.” Former ski racer and two-time Olympic champion Michaela Dorfmeister will be doing the same. “For me personally, the table is too small and the net too high, but I will definitely be there for the European Championships in Linz, where top-class sport will be on offer.” Also enthusiastic was Olympic luge medalist Madeleine Egle, who also found parallels to the ice track: „Table tennis requires quick reactions, which also helps in luge.“

Other participants in Wr. Neudorf included beach volleyball legends Nik Berger and Robert Novotny, snowboard athletes Sabine Schöffmann and Alexander Payer, BMX legend Senad Grosic, cyclist Tim Wafler, Olympic lugers Lara Kipp, Selina and Madeleine Egle, former diver Marion Reiff, and Sports Austria Managing Director Gerd Bischofter.
